Before-drying out before repair
My Fall Mantra, “stay awake and listen go to your own authentic voice”, continues to ring in my ears! How easy it is to get distracted; it does not help that we are beginning a gray, rainy spell. I made a couple of promises to myself and so far, this past week, I have managed to continue to move forward on a dedicated path. But, I have noticed I have not been without my tendency towards what my business mentor and friend calls mission creep. Mission Creep occurs when one sees another and tends to get distracted from the immediate task.
Today’s writing has continued even with the most recent distraction. This Monday has called forth all my conscious awareness and determination to stay on task. I have spent much of today stopping, breathing, and coaching myself to practice what I preach. The back story is that over a month ago we had a flood caused by fire sprinkler damage on the floor above us. Believe me, ten minutes in which hundreds of gallons of water surge onto and into walls causes enormous damage. Yes, I intellectually know the damage and disruption could be ever so much worse; none-the-less, the demo immediately afterwards was and the repair now has been disruptive. Actually, the experience has afforded

me the opportunity to stop, breathe, reassess and move on, over and over again. This practice has continued to guide me towards being mindful and less reactive in stressful moments. Still there will always be times when I am challenged and I always have the choice to move forward positively. The moment of chaos will move on; this immediate noise of workmen and repair will move on. For this moment I will choose to be happy that this is the sound of happy workmen talking amongst themselves, with the hum of machines accompanying them, and with the bell-like sounds of tools, metal upon metal, a sort of music, the happy sounds of progress towards wholeness!
I invite you as well, to stop, breathe, listen, and move forward, one moment at a time.
